We appriciate your choice of Bayview Furniture and know that quality furniture is a major investment. With proper care, furniture can give you beauty and enjoyment, as well as function, for years to come. The following will help you clean and care for it.

To protect your new furniture, we suggest the following:

Fine wood furniture should not be exposed to extreme heat or humidity, such as placing it in front of or over heating or air conditioning vents or directly under windows. Also try to avoid direct sunlight, which may fade certain finishes.

Be careful not to place plastic or rubber materials or hot objects (place mats, lamp bases, notebooks, etc.) directly on your furniture. Certain plastics and rubbers have ingredients that may react with and damage the finish. These chemicals may soften or discolor the finish if left in contact with the furniture for a long period. To avoid these marks, place felt, leather, or cork under accessories.

Occasionally rotate accessories so they do not remain in the same spot for extended periods.

Lift objects from the top surface rather than dragging them across the finish when moving them.

Use a protective pad when using your furniture as a writing surface (especially when using a ballpoint pen).

Spilled liquids should be wiped up immediately with a soft, slightly damp cloth, in the direction of the grain. Water left over a prolonged period of time will cause white spots in the finish, and alcohol, perfume, after-shave and medicines can cause severe damage to the finish.

Remove household dust with a soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth, dusting with the grain. The cloth may be dampened with a furniture dusting-aid product, or a furniture care polish may be used. Follow the manufacturer’s directions on the product. Avoid products that leave an oily film on the furniture since they may cause a clouding of the finish and have a tendency to collect dust.

Over time, scratches may be noticed on furniture from normal use. These can be touched up with a scratch remover or special touch-up pens or sticks available at your furniture retailer or at many paint stores.

We recommend that every six months, a more thorough cleaning of wood furniture than routine dusting is needed. Wash with a mild soap intended for that purpose or a furniture cleaning product available in most grocery stores. Following the directions on the product, use a soft cloth and wipe with the grain. A furniture polish should also be applied.
