Savona Collection Story
The design is a European provincial or cottage look with influences from Swedish, French, and Italian antiques, including Gustavian inspiration. The pieces are characterized by simplicity, balance, proportion, and finely appointed details that add uniqueness and character.
Savona is casual but structured, confident, timeless, stately, and elegant. Design details include clean lines, classic forms, breakfront and demi-lune shaped cases, architecturally inspired pilasters and friezes, tapered legs and feet, fluted posts, reeded and dentil moldings, geometric marquetry veneer patterns on table tops, case tops, and headboards, classic door grille fretwork, applied moldings on drawer fronts, metal fretwork over antiqued mirror, guilloche molding on a square mirror, and a layered glass oval mirror. The collection uses a creative mix of elm veneer, hardwood solids, a soft color palette, select two-tone painted pieces, fabric with gimp and nail trim, metal accents, stone tops, antiqued mirror, and traditional natural brass hardware.
Gustavian Design Note
Gustavian furniture began in 1771 when Gustav III returned to Sweden after time at the court of Louis XVI at Versailles. The style evolved as a restrained interpretation of French Louis XV and Louis XVI design. Light painted finishes such as soft cream, gray, and whitewash became popular for their reflective quality during long northern winters. Savona reflects that restrained elegance and the patina of aged, painted wood.
